![]() What a great day... We've had snow on the ground, for weeks! How *very* unusual.... At halftime during the basketball game this morning, (A win, 69-21!!) we walked over to the nearby outdor skate park... Still all snowed in. However, we did walk right by a still frozen pond, on the way.... Cool. It's taking forever to thaw out! ...I'm posting a photo from years back, of my favorite cousin, Theresa, and me. She's a great girl... Wish she wasn't so far away now.... Man, shovelling snow is good exercise! Thursday, January 08, 2004
"I've burned all my bridges, and I've sunk all the ships. Now I'm stranded at the edge of the sea." Bartender Blues "Oh, what a sweet surrender! I'm captured by two lips, warm and tender." The Battle "With the blood from my body, I could start my own still." If Drinkin Don't Kill Me (Her Memory Will) "My blue eyes still sparkle, with the love I felt for you, the day we met." Same Ole Me - George Jones "These could be the good old days...." "Just someone who knows he's in love." "I am a lone wolf, always have been and always will be..." -eels, from their new album, Shootenany. Often brilliant, as usual. This is the *third* day in a row, the post office has not delivered on our icy street! I just confirmed this with my neighbors. So much for delivering through rain, snow etc. They don't! Not here. Wait, wait! Now word's in, my office is closed again! At 1:00PM. This is *very* unusual. They close something like once every 10 years or so. Never ever for 3 days in a row though. My vacation leave is being eaten. Guess I'll have to enjoy myself later today, and get my money's worth! ![]() Looking through local high speed internet reviews and prices (and again finding I've got the best value around this area, still) I noticed one woman's profile, north of here. She wrote something I like as an inspirational quote: "I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not." Yes! Well, depends on the context. If I am working for someone, I'd just as soon they love me, no matter. However, in a personal relationship, this is so right on. Both ways. If I love who I think someone is, but then, figure out that was just my imagination or something, then, I have to be honest. Now, to be loved for who you really are..... Mmmm..... Another morning, another coat of ice outside! I hope to actually drive again later today though... I've updated my archives again, finally. So you will see less posts here on the main page. You can go back to older posts, just check the Dream Archives. Wednesday, January 07, 2004
Wall to wall local news coverage... Three local channels are covering the storm, for hours and hours. "The city of roses is deserted today." Yeah, except for the few hardy souls out skiing, or sleding, in my field.... I'm glad I've got plenty to eat and drink around here! Now comes word that my office is closed all day today... Just went out for a short walk, and cleared the ice off my windshields. It's *slowly* warming, now 23 degrees out. We're having the "worst storm in a decade" here... Nice. Looks very slippery out there. I just saw a kid go on and on and on from a little hill over at the school. Now he's pulling his sled back over... Wow, it looked like he had a powered sled! ...My new leather desk chair is comfy. I see my office is closed again, until noon (at least.) We've gotten a thick coat of ice, over the 8 inches or so of snow out there.... Fun! I think I'll motivate myself to get out and check it out later. It was supposed to have thawed out today, however it hasn't. It's still 22 degrees out there. Luckily, the wind's died down a lot. My heater's going full blast. Welcome to another year of life! :-) Today's the most fun day of the year for scopes: "You will not permit anyone to limit, control, or dominate you - not for long, anyway. You'd rather be alone than be crushed beneath another's thumb." Definitely. "Although you may present a cheerful exterior to the world and certainly know how to have a good time, you also possess a powerful dark side." Yeah. (I still can't believe that state elected Arnold S. as a governor. What a joke!) "You make a wonderful, dependable friend, and a very formidable enemy." Hmm. Tuesday, January 06, 2004
"I'm not a huge beer drinker, but I'm fond of saying that Heinekin is my absolute baseline." Yeah, actually, it's the gold standard. Given that you get real Heineken, not the English brewed version, and it's been handled properly, it's excellent, fairly strong lager. However, some people have this thing about serving beer on the warm side. They're wrong. Very wrong. ;-) "Your beer should be as cold as possible. Almost freezing." True!!! Now, it's not a bad idea to have another brand or two, just one or so, just for a change of pace. Heineken always tastes great though, before or after any other.... And, the million locally brewed ales we have around here are interesting, in small quantities. However, they're heavy, and they can often give you a headache and lousy hangover.... {Edit: I just found out my office opened for a grand total of three hours today! He ehehhee....} ![]() Mmm, it's 19 or 20 degrees (f) out now. Perfect for chilling, whatever one might like to chill... Especially with that wind. Roads in the area keep being closed. Sure glad I'm not out there... Looks like most of my neighbors have chosen not to head out too.... Some woman just walked by with a bag which looked like she'd just been to the Thriftway market... That's at least a mile from here, over hills... What a nut! Hardy, eskimo-type, I guess. Hmm, that Braun woman sounds better than I thought. She often makes sense.... How many times will Richard G. try for the presidency? And, do we really want another Dick in the White House? ... Just put together my new PC chair this morning. Wasn't too bad. I can actually do a fair imitation of being handy, now and then.... Leiberman is funny without trying. In answer to one of the moderator's questions, Leiberman responded, "You've stumped me." Hah ahha a! You're not supposed to say that! Sure, he'll be your president, just don't give him anything too hard to figure out. Ha hah ah aa! While out on a snow day... :-) I'm listening to a radio debate. The Dem's sure need to slim down their field. Several of them obviously have no chance... Hmm, I suppose if you have enough gumption to run for president, you have to stick with it a while. Soon there will be fewer. Anyway, Kerry drives me nuts. It's as if he and Leiberman are competing to see who can sound the most boring..... The front-runner is interesting though. Monday, January 05, 2004
"If anyone tells you to get out and mix, and you don't want to, don't." (Janet Frame finally finds a doctor who tells her this. She's delighted.) Ha hahaa.... |
