94 It feels so good, out there, in the shade, in the breeze, all 93 still degrees bearing upon my skin. I have a feeling today and tomorrow may be the last blasts of this year's Indian Summer. I'm enjoying them fully. Oh, I suppose one could say I'd enjoy them even more if I made my way to one of the local nude beaches. I think not. It would get too hot fast enough. There are easier ways to view nude bodies. :-) Sure am loving this bit of summer after the summer is through. Today's high of 94 beat the prediction of 92 by 2. I wonder if tomorrow will manage 90? Dispatch I wrote, back in June... "I wonder if I'll be seeing a dispatch from Block Island, this year?" The girl who so sweetly used to send me postcards from Block Island every year, actually sent me a dispatch from elsewhere in Rhode Island this year, explaining she wouldn't be making it to B.I. this year. A very nice touch. Oh Lord! I *****love***** this Wackies dub LP. Nothing, nothing in the entire universe like it..... Thank You God. I love being alive with ears right now. Charming Music Some music simply has charm. That's the music I go for most deeply. For some reason, music on vinyl seems to bring out the charm more than any other. (Or is it that the music I have on vinyl is the most charming I've heard?) You could say, there's a certain *warmth* in some of the best music. My specialty. Oh Lord, the feeling! The Chosen Brothers - Sing And Shout (Wackies) Faults And Otherwise... I have many faults... Not least of which, I'm terrible at ending friendships, or intimate relationships. Generally, I'm *not* too graceful at it. As you might have guessed, if you've been reading some of the posts in this blog. Hey, by the way, I just updated my archives, finally! (I figured out an easier way to update it too, so who knows, I may actually keep current, if I can remember to do it.) So, if you feel like reading Harry Potter posts, and a few other things, check out the weeks in August and September. There's lots more stuff, music reviews and things, going back to October of 2001, if you should get in the mood to read on and on... Oh, that's right, I was to say, I have my faults... On the other hand, I have a plethora of excellent music. I don't know anyone who's better at finding, and choosing great stuff. Ok, that sounds egotistical. Too bad, it's true. ;-) Early Deaths Wait, what's going on here.... First, John Ritter, an actor in his 50s, dies. Well, he had looked pretty bad recently, I thought. Like there was something unhealthy inside. Still.... Now, Robert Palmer, the singer/producer dies at 54? Wow. I mean, that's when I'll be thinking very seriously about retirement, as things appear now. I can see 30 years, maybe more, *after* that point. God willing. Wow, it's just strange... It's almost scary when you see someone you don't think of too often pictured in the news. Did *they* just die, too? Innocence ![]() In the interview fromthe Kids Awards 2003 on the Disney Channel UK site, the kids from Potter are quite charming in their innocence. Even after the first two movies' multiple premiers and things, they still are quite obviously blown away by all the attention they're getting. Emma really acts her age here, and reminds one she is just 13.... The innocence of youth. :-) Cool, I knew someone who seemed to keep that, in a way, right up through her twenties. Quite an accomplishment.... Hmm, as far as I can tell, this Kids Awards show is not playing on the US Disney channel. Well, at least the interview in online (link above.) Maybe they'll play or replay the whole show later. 92 Wow, it's the fifth day of autumn here, in a place that rarely gets over 90 all summer most years, and it's supposed to be 92 degrees today! :-) Just missed 90 yesterday too. This might be the most extended summer we've ever had here... Last night again, about 9:00PM, I went out in the field star-gazing with my binoculars. Plenty of stars to see, with the real star lately, Mars again. Shining as if someone had placed a red light in the sky..... Something strange was going on this morning. It was 67 degrees inside (aided by some A/C overnight) however since it was before 7:00AM, I figured I'd get some cooler fresh air into the house. I opened up a couple windows, and went off for a walk. When I returned, it had gone up a degree in there! The odd thing is, it is supposedely about 62 even now, downtown, and cooler yet out at the airports, where the Weather channel takes it's readings. So why was it 69 or above at my place, in the wind? How can that happen!? Thank God, they've finally gotten the air conditioning at work humming along at a comfortable level, so I couldn't care how hot it gets "out there." Just more Indian summer to take in.... Mmmmm... Friday, September 26, 2003
Potter Stuff I've been taking a break from all things Potter for a while. On a lark, I checked just now, and what do I find? Emma Watson! At the Disney Kid Awards, wearing a *giant* Christian cross... Hmmm.... That girl's amazing. I wonder what she'll do besides, or after, the Potter movies... (Oh yes, she's standing with Tom Felton. Yeah, whatever.) Ha hahahha... Sounds like Emma thinks Phoenix kind of fat for a book. "It's too big. I start it and then keep putting it down." Wish I could tell her, "Emma, get the audio CD set, the Jim Dale version! It's a lot easier, and quite entertaining." Especially some of the oddball characters' sounds, like Umbridge. No, no, I am *not* going to listen to that once again just yet... Anything Goes ![]() Now, some 1920s and 30s music's bringing a smile to my face. Indie, alternative, a little reggae, some classic country, some cool indie pop, and now, this... Mmm. Yeah, this stuff's really hitting the spot. "Lord knows, anything goes... Times have changed.. If driving fast cars you like it..... Oh me undressed, you like it. Nobody will oppose. When every night the sets of smarties indulging in nudist parties, in studios, then anything goes." - Anything Goes - Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra, featuring Ramona on vocal. Ho Hum, Another Sunny Day, More Fantastic Music Having a beer on a Friday evening, sunny Indian Summer out my window, listening to a certain B.B. (not BB King and not the Beach Boys) who's blowing me away tunefully, song after song.... I'm idly purusing some other music what should come up right off?: Another Sunny Day - "What's Happened To You, My Dearest Friend?" What has? Poor girl.... I think she's lost her way. Where Were You? Just listening to Luscious Jackson, "Friends." There's this great assumption a friend will always be there for you, and you will always be there for them. Sometimes, something may be the best thing for me. However, it doesn't feel right. It feels like hmm, a denial of what was. Or what could be. Or what should be. Just a denial.... Nevermind, forget the friends for life thing. It's like death, feels like death. The death of something wonderful. Sadly, quietly. Thursday, September 25, 2003
Burning Brightly It's beautiful out tonight. Feels about 70, in the quiet darkness. Crickets and frogs sing their songs. Red Mars burns brightly. Stars all around. Feels like summer. "If I Don't Love You (Grits Ain't Groceries)" "Tell me pretty mama, Have I filled your heart with hate? Well with someone new you're affiliated, And it's making me feel like I'm outdated." I love George Jones. I don't care if he wrote his own songs or not. He's got a ton of brilliant ones. This particular song's from his early, sort of hyper, high pitched days. Dead on feelings though, as usual. As If Anyone Reads This Ha, as if anyone I mention here ever reads about themselves...;-) Anyway, I was just thinking.. What if Gretchen Mol was to read this blog, on a chance. Let's say, she likes to read random blogs now and then, and just happens to come across this one. So she starts reading how gorgeous she is, and what a fine performance she gave in Just Looking. She's feeling good. Ah, this total stranger guy really admires me. :-) Then, she comes to my next post, where I throw her in with Winona Ryder. Still happy, "so, I'm one of the two women in the world this guy would like to get involved with, if only..." Then, finally, she gets to the part where I talk about how while she's fantastic as a red-head, she's only not too bad as a blonde... "What!? So, he doesn't like my hair?! Well, I am a blonde! A beautiful blonde!" OK, so if you ever read this, Gretchen, please understand, somehow I first saw you ever really as a red-head, and oh my.... Dating Actresses If I was to start going out with actresses....I'd start with Gretchen Mol, and Winona Ryder. Watching Just Looking, I hadn't realized Mol doesn't normally have red hair. She'd make a striking red-haired girl! She's not half-bad as a blonde, either... ;-) Come to think of it, I did date a (local) actress for a while, years back. Not exactly Gretchen or Winona though. Sigh... Wednesday, September 24, 2003
A Few Things ![]() Choosing to ignore for now the hassle viewers of this blog face, with the increased ads, I'm going to post some more. I will eventually change to another host. Hard to tell when I will get in the mood for that work though.. So, a few things for now: 1) The 1999 movie Just Looking has some great scenes in it! It's about a 14 year old boy (Ryan Merriman) discovering the world of sex, by attempting to watch it, and talking about it. He and another boy, and two girls have a "sex club", in which they talk, and only talk, about sex. Basically sharing with each other what they've been able to gather, candidly, charmingly, and fairly graphically. Most of my favorite scenes are those four meeting. I love the one girl is disgusted and embarrassed much of the time during those talks most. She's cool. The other best scenes, for me, all have Gretchen Mol in them. She's gorgeous in this movie, with her red hair, light complexion, and curvy exterior. She's wonderfully sexy and sweet again and again. The main character, the 13 year old boy, has some very interesting interactions with her. They connect as characters in unexpected ways. The movie's not perfect. I'd throw out a couple scenes myself. {Especially the one where the main character is somewhat disallusioned by the woman he has a huge crush on. That may be true to life, but I could have done without it.)... Still, the best parts are fantastic, funny and heartwarming. This is all set in the 1950's, and the two sex talking girls are Catholics "so they don't do it." Ha ha... {Note, I've read some bad reviews on this movie. They're wrong. I suppose it is offensive in parts, especially having 13-16 year old kids voicing the things they do. But, the best scenes are not to be missed.....} 2) Over the weekend, Sunday afternoon, one of my favorite people in the world said something which still cracks me up every time I think of it. I was tired, and most likely not moving too fast. Assessing the situation, he commented, "We've got to slowly but slugly move along." Ha hahaha!!! 3) I understand the season has changed. It's fall now, right? Then, why is it still in the 80's in the Pacific Northwest? It's going to be 88 Friday?! Very unusual weather we're having. 4) Fear not... I will finally update the Just Dreaming archives, soon. 5) It's one of those happier days, today. Tuesday, September 23, 2003
