Younger Sirius
Cool, the upcoming (17 years back) movie Sirius Black made an excellent Sid Vicious, in Sid & Nancy... Eee, I sure hope the real Nancy was nicer looking... Help! I can hardly wait for Prisoner of Azkaban! Next year? Something to look forward to, anyway. (It's really easy to see how Sid & Nancy got to be a cult classic....)

Fantasy And Reality
"It's time you learned the difference between life and dreams..." Why? What fun is that!? This is supposed to be a fantasy, *not* real life.... Hmm, I'm not sure it should be Hagrid to rid us of Lucius Malfoy. No, Hagrid can take care of someone else... How about Snape? It would be fun to watch Snape turn on Malfoy. Or maybe Dobby, although Dobby drives me nuts.... Ultimately, Draco will need to escape. Perhaps one day, he could develop into a real rival for Potter - in a future series. Although, he sure seems week at this point. About all he's really good at, are insults and sneers. Useless little rich boy.... Listening to the death scene again, I have a different feeling. I don't see it as either Harry nor Dumbledore's fault that this Maurader had died. It was his own recklessness... Instead of being deadly serious in his battle with his cousin, he spent his time taunting her... Better to have concentrated. It was his own fault. Seems that man had never truly grown up. If he hadn't died here, he certainly would have gotten killed some time after, foolishly displaying his ego again....

Complaining and Complaining
"In the end, this book is 760 pages of Harry complaining and complaining and complaining." (Someone's review of Order of the Phoenix.") Sounds like how a friend might have described me! Argh... Ah well, anyway... I've found the book (actually CD audio book) much better the second time through. Umbridge is easier to handle. I mostly ignore Harry's bad attitude. He seems quite foolish in the way he treats friends, and in some decisions he makes, but there are lots of other characters to enjoy. Hermione as usual, for me, being the most interesting.... The trailers site I mentioned in my last post connects to some slashy HP themes... It is true that Draco seems more interested in Harry, than really anything else at school. Still, I don't really understand the whole "slash" scene. How can you make an obviously straight guy into a gay guy? Why would you want to? Very perplexing, for me. I think you have to be a hetrosexual woman, with a certain bent, to understand.... I'm still getting a very strong feeling that Harry Potter is most popular with girls (& women?) I wonder, why is that? Another reader comment: "The book starts out, indeed goes through most of the book, with Harry Potter in a bad mood over his life and how he feels he's being treated." Wow, sounds like yours truly sometimes. Hmmm...... Oh, oh! I've read a theory that Snape is a Capricorn with a Scorpio rising, or vice-versa. Oh man, now I am Snape-like??? ...I think perhaps my biggest complaint with OOTP (which I'll likely start a third time through soon) is that it's too true to life. Umbridge, idiot politians (Fudge) and so forth, get a little too close to reality. Yes, I'd say that's much worse than Harry's obnoxious attitude..... Hmmm. I hope it gets further from reality, next time around. I hope Harry gets away from his one-dimensional emotional life, too. Anger isn't the most pleasant thing to hear about again, and again, and again... Another read comment: "Harry is so angry and confused that its hard to even like him." Yes, right on! Although we still have the other characters to like, again - Hermione, Hagrid, Dumbledore..

Half-Breed Oaf
"The great half-breed oaf." Umbridge is pretty amusing. Maybe she herself is half-toad? I have to say, it made no sense that in OOTP, no one remembered Snape as a member of the Order, towards the end. I mean, come on, after his visits to the Black residence? The whole sequence leading to the death in this book was pretty weak.... Although, the Hermione ruse was very entertaining! "Who is deemed to have near-human intelligence..." Umbridge is great! Wonderfully stupid.... Wow, Jim Dale does an excellent Grawp...... Oh cool! Fan made movie trailers! I've only just watched the first one, which is based on scenes from different HP movies, present and future. Ha haa! Hermione is quite a bit taller than this Harry. I love his glasses here, with the little gum patch in the middle.. Great flying scene too. Funky sountrack music... The second trailer here is actually a link to a girl's site... She does several little music videos with footage from the HP movies so far. Cool editing...

This face does smile now and then....... I had a warm thought of the feel of a woman's bare top to mine this morning. That unmistakable feel. Yeah, the opposite sex.

Gary Oldman Gary Oldman as Sid Vicious (and Chloe Webb)
Sid & Nancy is playing soon in the Independent Film Channel. The film stars Gary Oldman as Sid Vicious. Nice chance to see the upcoming Sirius Black (which Oldman will portray in HP & The Prisoner of Azkaban in 2004) in another role.

Scary
New York City is so scary sometimes. I came close to a day trip there, years back, when I was back east. I wasn't feeling too well that day though, so we didn't make the drive. I can't say that I regret it. Seems you'd want to be on your toes going in. I wonder if I'll ever go there. Quite possibly not... Wow, it's weird hearing stories and seeing photos of people lining up, and paying high prices for *batteries* for their flashlights. Call me paranoid, but I have lots of batteries. Plenty of candles and lamps too. Why wouldn't I? :-)

Grey Friday Morning
Last evening it was 90 f plus and sunny. This morning, grey, breezy, with a little hint of rain drops.... Wow, much of the northeastern U.S. is still out of power? Driving to work this morning, I was wondering if a certain part of Connecticut is out of power. An animated conversation fills the imagination... "..Part of his mind, that part that often spoke in Hermione's voice..."

Kid-ults
Not that I've ever cared for Esquire...
"Esquire editor Simon Tiffin said: 'We were inspired by the sight on planes, trains and buses of too many grown men reading Harry Potter. They are kid-ults. We've lost the art of growing old gracefully.'"
They may want to use the term as a put down. I kind of like it though. :-) Who wants to be totally stodgy, anyway? Apparently, the Esquire editor. Bleah.

Screaming Voice Inside
Usually, I'm not one to particularly dream about winning the lottery. However! Today, and just every now and then, I have a voice screaming inside me...... "I want to win the lottery!" Work, eh.

Such Encouragement
"For a first attempt, that was not as poor as it might have been." (Snape, to Harry In OOTP "Occulemcy.")
That Snape is so encouraging, to Harry! At least Harry's long since learned not to expect any encouragement from Snape. Not like he's a friend or anything..... It would be much more disturbing coming from a friend. Speaking of which, he sure didn't treat his friends that nicely in that latest book! Rowling overdid that part....

In Honor Of New Book....
In other news, in honor of the newest Harry Potter book, Tami Farrell, of Phoenix, Oregon, was named Miss Teen USA on Tuesday.

Her Love?
Wow, this is pretty trippy....A wizards and witches camp? Sounds like just what a lot of kids have wished for..... OK, I have a question... If, apparently, Harry's inner love keeps Lord Thingee ;-) from possessing him, then why wasn't Ginny Weasley protected from being possessed? Surely she had a lot of love in her heart.... (Another unconnected thought- -) It's strange how what is, is not nearly so daunting as what might be. Even when what is, was once that dreaded might be.

Dream or Not?
I don't see how a dream girl can be a slutty girl. I just... Hmm. A little unfair? I keep thinking maybe this is unfair somehow. No. What, after all, is a dream girl? I'd say, it's one who has the qualities you like - - and equally as importantly, does not have the (main) qualities you do not seek. So.... It's perfectly fair! She is, after all, a dream.

Aunt Marge
Jim Dale's version of Vernon Dursley is so much funnier than Stephen Fry's... I had an interesting experience yesterday. My third brother from out-of-state came to visit with his family... We were sitting on my parents' patio visiting, when I distinctly heard my sister in law, on the opposite side, mention "Hogwarts." Ha! Apparently, they buy one copy of each book when they come out, and everyone in the family reads them, in turn. Although, their ten year old daughter has become a little impatient to read more than an hour or so at a time.. Hmm, I like Jim Dale's version of Aunt Marge better too. Dale is simply more amusing. Although... It's cool hearing the different versions. And there's a third English audio version?? Wow, that Aunt Marge sure is a *itch. I think she's a perfectly BAD example of a bulldog lover. They're very cool dogs, and she's a very unsuitable breeder - yeech.... Of course, in Rowling's world, Umbridge gives frogs a bad name... Hmmm.... No matter. I'm feeling good, on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoying the fruits of my labours. Or, something like that. Sometimes, one just needs to survive. I like that....

Ugh! Does it ever seem like the whole world is politics? It's sick. Even the fictional world, ugh. Well, screw 'em....Hmm... I do like the way Mr. Fry says "Hermione." And it's cool he has the same name as the original character in Futurama, Fry. Fry's not as good overall, but he does have his strong points....
