Horrible My favourite of the movies so far.
Last night I was reading a fan appreciation book of Harry Potter. It's mostly children talking about various aspects of HP, dressing up in character, etc. One comment was really strange! Her comment was apparently before the movies came out.... She was thinking of Whoopi Goldberg as Professor McGonnagal... It would be hard to imagine a worse match! Hmm, I seem to be thinking about posting about some of the topics that keep coming up. Like "Images in your mind".... I agree with what someone wrote, the Ginny in the movies doesn't seem that much like the developing Ginny in the books.... I *love* the name Lord Thingee, or just Thingee, for Lord Voldermort.

No Hugs
"Speaking of portraits - you can get advice and consolation from a painting, but nothing else. No hugs, magical powers, etc. It's not as good as you might think - you would see how you can get close to Sirius but you eventually would fall deeper into depression because you can't get the real thing." (From COS, not my writing, however.....)

Losing Both
The problem with losing both your best friend and your main confidant is... You then have no best friend to confide in about how you're feeling about this.

His Attitude
The very worst part of Phoenix, for me, was Harry's attitude. He seemed to have lost his ability to cope with things. Why? A lot of people cite his age, 15. I wonder....
1) His best friend(s) are more distant, literally at first. They're together, and he's not.
2) Someone he had admired without hesitation (his dad, in his case) turns out not to be so perfect, after all.
3) His wise, kind old person was seeming more like just an old person (Dumbledore, for him.)
4) His confidante (Sirius) became pretty useless, before leaving his life altogether.
5) The organization he loved, and to which he had devoted years of his life to already, had changed radically for the worse, to be headed by an awful person.
6) People were discrediting him left and right, and almost no one seemed to appreciate him any more. Even those that theoretically did, rarely if ever talked with him.
7) He felt guilty and knew he deserved a little of the blame for his plight.
8) He felt guilty as some of his love seemed to turn to hate.
9) Everywhere he turned, his life seemed to be getting darker.
10) He knew, somewhere deep inside, that he'd mistreated his friends, that he could have been nicer to them... This only made him feel worse.
11) He felt very alienated.
12) He knew, again within him somewhere, that he should develop a more constructive attitude about things.... but felt himself incapable of this, at least for the time being.
13) He wasn't sure if he would ever regain his light, fun attitude to living.
14) His rare romantic glimmers of hope seem to be sabotaged by his friends.
15) He hates the political treachery in his world, and feels utterly powerless to change it. He must simply deal with all the bad decisions being handed down.

I understand how he feels.

Perplexed
"Don't be be getting yourself a 20 year old {girlfriend}, Dad," said the 11 year old boy, during a weekend visit.
"Whatever makes you say that?" asked the boy's father, feeling perplexed, and noticing the boy's unease...
"Well, I don't want to have a 20 year old mom," replied the boy.

Kick Her
The more I listen (to the audio of Order of the Phoenix, lately) to Draco, the more he seems like quite the screw-up as the villain junior. Seems like Harry and his buddies always manage to get the better of the Malfoy boy. Harry has one very intelligent, capable friend in Hermione, to go with ordinary Ron. Draco just has two dullards. They don't seem equally matched, at all. Draco has his powerful father, and that's about it.... The best thing about Phoenix, is the length. We get to see in much more depth each part of this book. It's as if Rowling started thinking, maybe subconsciously, "well, I've set out this Harry Potter series as limited to seven books, equaling Harry's years as a student at Hogwarts. Hmm, therefore, I am quickly running out of books to write for these characters I love... Hey, why not write the books a lot longer!"

My matches, currently... Harry/Hermione, Ron/Luna, Ginny/Neville (as Neville continues to prove himself brave and increasingly competent), Snape/Narcissa Malfoy (After Lucius is slain in battle by Hagrid, with his pink umbrella.)... OK, something seems really weird to me. So, the Ministry of Magic stopped using owls for interoffice memos, as they made quite a mess, leaving droppings all over the desks. Thus they use floating paper planes for that delivery there now.... So, why would owls be allowed to fly all over the great hall at Hogwarts, **during meals**?? Disgusting! ... I love Jim Dale's "hem, hem's" for Dolores Umbridge. Ha ahahaha!! I'd just like to kick her! I've been wondering lately, why Moody didn't *actually* take the job for the new year, since he never really got to do it in the first place. Seems like, given the climate then, someone like him could have been very useful in teaching The Defense Against The Dark Arts class, and also nice to have around Hogwarts...
