Rethinking
I've been rethinking about some of the Potter characters.... Ron *is* a good friend, and amusing. Plus, his family is kind to Harry, and they give us good insights into a large red-haired wizarding family. Ron seems like Harry's very best friend. I can imagine *them* being life-long friends... Also, hmm, Draco doesn't seem quite so annoying now. Well, he *is* annoying, but he really doesn't get all that much attention in the series. Nothing close to what Harry's best friends do.. I suppose he *does* provide a contrast.

Hearing Potter HP books' second most interesting character

As much as I like listening to the U.S. version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, I have a few comments:
1) The worst thing is, a man (Jim Dale) voicing young girls' voices. He's awful at it. Worse still, Hermoine sounds pretty much exactly like Harry, in his interpretation. Which is utterly ridiculous. [Dale is quite good at some male characters, like Hagrid. Even some older women. Just that he doesn't do young girls justice.]
2) Somewhat related to the problem above, several *main* children characters are indistinguishable in Dale's voicing. Seems like he could have worked out ways to make them sound at least a little different from each other.
3) Why do we need to listen to a man reading a book written by a woman? I'd love to hear a good woman actress doing the reading, instead. Hmm, maybe an alternative version. That would be cool. Hey, there's an idea for a good bootleg!! :-) In fact, you could do it yourself, if you had the right woman, with the right voice.... My third grade teacher was quite a good reader, if I recall correctly... [Now, all I need to do is find the right woman to read the books, then record and produce the whole thing. That would be fun!]
4) As an alternative, how about hiring the main characters from the movies, to voice their characters in unabridged audio versions of the books. Except that, of course, the boys voices especially are changing fast, so they'd have a hard time doing the first couple of books now...
5) I'm glad to gather that the movie version of the Prisoner of Azkaban will have less quiditch than the book. That game gets old fast. I'd say maybe one quick game, the one with Malfoy and his buddies pretending to be those Dementors perhaps, would be plenty.
6) I don't really get the idea that there always have to be malicious characters, to keep things interesting. Like the Malfoys in the books - - Who cares about those slimy characters. They get too much "screen time" to me... Draco Malfoy seems so boring and one-dimensional. Who cares about an evil-inclined, bratty kid? Plus, that family really gives rich people (or people-like wizards) a bad name. As if people have to get snooty if they get wealthy?
7) Hermoine should be given more attention, more time, more lines... She's the most interesting character in the series, besides Harry. Certainly *much* more interesting than goofball Ron, who gets much more of Harry's, and the series', time.

Coloring & Imagination
Amazing.... Someone gave me some photos they'd found, a few days back, from years ago. One was a color photo, with the Pig woman who had been my girlfriend then. Amazing, I had not made the connection... Her coloring, the auburn hair, big eyes, and light skin nearly matched the Pig girl who was my friend for years, until, apparently, recently. Wow.....

I've been really enjoying reading in my back yard, lately. Last night, I braved some crazy crows, cawing about like mad! I don't know what the fuss was about. They sure made a racket, though. That's one thing I'd change about my new place if I could. The crows! I think one crow in the neighborhood would be a great plenty. There *are* more pleasant birds to listen to, of course. Just that, sometimes they get drowned out by the loud mouths.... Later last night, I enjoyed listening to an audio book, of the third Harry Potter. I had a really cool dream after that, in which I was staying with some nice people, who kept pointing out nice looking young women in the area... :-) The only trouble with audio books is, they go too fast! It's really fun to lay and listen, and imagine. Plus, no matter how tired I might be, I usually have the energy to *listen*....

In Winona's reading of Miss Frank's diary, she spoke about how nice it was, just to be near the teenaged boy she was close to then.... They didn't have to talk, to enjoy each other's presence. (They later broke up, kind of, but that's besides the point.) This is one great disadvantage to long distance relationships. Even though sometimes you can feel the presence of the other, being so far away, it's not the same. You basically cannot communicate silently. You cannot sit in the same room and feel the love. You cannot gently touch. You cannot share a loving glance. Thus, if you find a splendid companion who you cannot be near, the frustration may nearly drive you mad.

Late Night Surfing
Why is it, that late night (early morning) net surfing seems like about the most fun kind? Maybe, just that I like being up in the middle of the night? Hmm... "No, I'll just check this out... Er, which leads to... Oh, well let me just read a little of this..."
