Driving Music
I haven't written for a few days, have I? I've been busy. Exploring music - ambient breakbeat, acid jazz, trip hop - that sort of thing. Some great driving music in there. Lots of contemplating too.....I had a couple things I wanted to post about, just haven't (yet?) I'm secretly debating whether to continue with this blog. If you have any thoughts on if I should or not, don't be shy.

50%
I've been batting about 50 percent in DVDs... I can't believe how much I'm enjoying French films. Well, the few I've seen lately, that is. On the other hand, "The Lord Of The Rings" gets two big thumbs down! OK, so I only watched five minutes of it.... I was reticent to even try it anyway. This could be partly a hangover from my childhood, when I resented being forced to read those long books. I don't like being forced to do anything, so that stuck with me. I'd seen bits of it here and there too, and it looked awfully dark. I thought, "hey I loved the first Harry Potter movie, so maybe I should give this one a chance, too." Especially for free. :-) I started watching, feeling no charm flowing from it... Then, this really ugly modern demon rendition came on my screen. That was enough. Two thumbs down! Lots of movies left to preview.... including the second Harry Potter movie.. Oh, the other one which just didn't do it for me was "Metropolis." Love the posters, not the actual blurry (even on DVD) movie.

Prohibition Brew
Hey, the word "saloon" comes from the French word, "salon"... No wonder I get them mixed up! Watching this program on the history of saloons, reminds me of something my dad told me last weekend. I've known him all my life, and he *never* mentioned this before! I was telling him about my neighbor Charles's elaborate setup for brewing his own beers.. Then, he told me his dad (my grandfather) had brewed his own beer, during prohibition, in his closet!! Every once in a while, the thing explode! OK, so I like beer a lot, so in that regard, it shouldn't be a huge surprise. My dad never has drank much though. A beer or two is a lot for him... So it's a little hard to imagine.... That grandfather of mine died when I was tiny, so I never knew him. Boy, I'd have loved to hear his brewing stories... And to drink some beer with him. [Edit: It's so hard to imagine that prohibition ever happened...A *majority* voted for that?? Congress overrode President Wilson to help enact it?! Sounds about like my state legislature. They should put me in charge. ;-)]

Trippy In Peace Today's turned out with gorgeous spring sunshine.
I like that my neighbors say hello whenever we see each other. I like that they had a party, and invited me. I like how we have good little conversations now and then. I **love** how they seem to have excellent regard for my privacy though, too. I can sit in here sampling some new jazzy trip hop space dub in peace, after a really nice walk around the block. I love it.

Nice To Me
I've been writing a long letter to my parents this morning. Parents sure are nice to have. You know they read your letters, and your notes, with great interest. Plus, even though they're getting old, and their health isn't what it used to be, they're *nice* to me. Now, my dad *does* drive me crazy sometimes... He has a lot of strong thoughts on things. At one point recently, I sort of asked that he stop bugging me about whether I had a girlfriend (again) yet. Amazingly, he stopped, completely. See what I mean about them being nice to me? Last weekend, Saturday, we went to visit them. They were so happy about that! Then, as so often in the past, they sent food home with me. I really enjoyed that chicken dinner on Easter Sunday.
