French, Lolita Oh man, the French do Lolitas much more daringly than we do. How do they get away with this stuff!? I can't believe it... We have ****really**** progressive libraries around here..... A completely different, heartbreakingly sweet Lolita. Swimming In Films ![]() Naturally, I'm going crazy on DVDs now. Right now I'm watching the seemingly never ending "Treasures From American Film Archives" four DVD set.... I have 10 films and about 14 individual DVDs to watch, in the coming week! Of course, now, right this minute, my Dodgers have had **two** games in a row of dramatic late inning come backs. First game, behind, 2-0 in the ninth (??!) and come back to **win** 5-2. Now today, another, losing 3-0 in the 7th - they go on to win 4-3, the final run on a rewatchable Shawn Green home run in the eigth innning. Yeah, it's a lousy season so far. Some really nice points, lately, though. I need more hours to watch all these movies though! Live Below Your Means I'm going to write about this soon.... Sure makes sense. Your life gets better - - surprisingly fast, too. Simple. Just live below your means. Friday, April 25, 2003
DVDs ![]() My DVDs have started coming in. I hardly watch movies, so it's easy to find all sorts of things I've never seen. I love Winona Ryder, and in a minute, I think I'll start "Girl, Interrupted." I didn't realize The Band had a song in this movie. Winona's so beautiful, she outclasses the other female lead in this movie - I can see that from the trailer. "Dracula"? No, I don't like vampires. It's fun seeing this movie, "Girl Interrupted" for the first time, now. A person should experience culture whenever they like - which for me usually isn't when it's brand new. ;-) Winona's so incredible. Odd and lovely. [Edit: Angelina Jolie is quite good in it too.... Lovely Winona's diagnosis: "Social contrariness, and a generally pessimistic attitude are often observed." I love her. Lock me up!! She's such a sweetie. A childlike woman. 5 stars.] Later... The Piano is wonderful on DVD...I'm watching a favourite scene or two... Thursday, April 24, 2003
Encouragement I love being encouraged. Sometimes, what someone says may actually contain bits of ideas, which you can put to work in your life. Other times, it simply feels good, that someone cares to *want* to make you feel better. I love encouragement. Whispers Of Nothing Things are not going that well at the moment. I'm thinking I would like to post the good things here - - so I may be quiet for the time being. Details of good things are more fun to read than details of the downsides. Tuesday, April 22, 2003
Love Or Hate In my mind, people either hate me (and right now I can imagine people hating me) or they really like me. I don't really have a neutral thought. Some guys, pretty much always seem to hate me (and I can think of a certain jealous, insecure type right now, who doesn't hide his hatred very well.) With girls, it's more complex. One day they seem just about like they love me, and another day, I'm more sure than ever, now they hate me. Love or hate, every time. Rock Bottom ![]() This *feels* like a perfectly awful day. Nothing in particular, or at least, nothing I am not used to dealing with. Just that, today, things seem harder to deal with. It's a rock bottom day emotionally... Just tell me now, that there is no scientific basis in those things. Right. Specialize, Without Limit "Try to learn something about everything and everything about something." (Thomas H. Huxley) I've never exactly thought about it that way, however I do this. Like, in music.... I like to know something about lots of types of music. However, I'll know everything about a certain music. This really does make sense to me. Specialize, sure. However, that doesn't limit you in any way.... You can still enjoy all kinds of stuff, and your life is richer for it. Monday, April 21, 2003
Trigger Happy TV? OK, I tried it. Hmm. I found it more annoying than amusing, both episodes I caught. That's enough. I like finding out about lots of things.... Things I'm not particularly passionate about. Like rockets, or zeppelins. So many things can be *very* interesting, when done right...Funny little rockets, being carried on guys' backs. Duds. I love it. Bizarre looking zeppelins... DVD-R &.. OK, well a DVD-R of "The Nutcracker" seems to work fine, and I'll watch the rest later, hopefully when the person who put it together is back... Now, let's try MP3s real quick...They're playing, no problem. I love it when something works fine right out of the box... Suppose I ought to take a look at the user's manual now. On comes UB40's "Where Did I Go Wrong?"...... "No warmth in your body, no touch in your kiss." What to do when a girl turns cold? JPGs Too Now I'm playing some JPEGs of a classy looking girl, on my TV, from a CDRW. Wow, this thing is doing everything it's supposed to do, nicely. It Works!! Just got my new DVD player, and my first test was a homemade VCD, of a Bob Dylan interview from 1964. It works, brilliantly! Wow.... Wow, my second experiment, of certain scenes from some Audrey Tautou movies, looks even better! VCDs are cool!! Sunday, April 20, 2003
Thievery Thievery Corporation's mixes of others' works are particularly satisfying, on a party afternoon. Stuff like their mix of David Byrne's "Dance On Vaseline"... or "Chove Chuva" - Sergio Mendes and Brazil '66. Or their mix of Ben Folds Fives' "In Love." Happy Easter ![]() This morning I woke up, got up a few minutes, then went to lay in bed, feeling lazy. I sat there thinking, Its so absolutely silent in here.... Seems Ive been so busy since I moved here, that Ive barely had time to enjoy the silence.....I said a few prayers... Now a few minutes ago, for the second time today, I was laughing out loud. Loud! Its so cool laughing, and not giving a thought to bothering the neighbors..... Mmmm, Im watching The Man In The Moon with Reese Witherspoon.... Id noticed it earlier, but I came in late. I feel for that girl, her character, Dani... Too young for love, and yet...Tender heart. I could get the video Can I stand it after the digital version though? Hmmm... Happy Easter. |
