Wow! Yes!! Checking the local weather, it seems to be a few degrees colder out here on the west side of town, and ooooh, the snow!! So far in the last 45 minutes or so there must be a couple inches! On the streets, on the sidewalk, everywhere! :-) I love it! The sound of the snow on my hood is something new too.. I never used to wear a hood, and I think this is the first time I've heard really big flakes on my hood.. I like the sound.. :-) Snowing!!!!  Yes, it's snowing again, in Portland! :-) I love it!!!! It's snowing like crazy, real big flakes... Mmmm... This is more like it! It started this afternoon, while I was sitting in boys YMCA basketball game, out in Cedar Mill... People were whispering, "It's snowing outside, really hard! It's like a blizzard out there!" I went to take a look, and sure enough! After the game it was still coming down hard, for a few more minutes... Wow, it's just beautiful... There are so many big evergreen trees in that area, and around here too... Ball Of Fire I�ve thought of my "close call," which I posted about a few days ago, several times since then, whenever I come to that intersection. I�ve been analyzing it. I mean, I wouldn�t really want to be that �close� again, if I can help it! I was thinking, �I�m accustomed to people running a red light, going just after it turns red on them.� That is not a really unusual thing. That�s not something that would make me think, �Something is way off here.� I�ve sat in my CRV while going to work, at that intersection... The light turns green. The next instant, a huge logging truck going whirring by... Well, just a day before my close call, I was going to work when the light changed to green, for me. As is my habit, I looked to the left for any light runners, and ROAR, a big gasoline tanker truck comes rushing by! I started thinking to myself, what a big ball of fire I would have been, if I�d actually pushed my foot to the pedal, as soon as I saw the green... �Whew...� So, why would I have been the least bit surprised, going home, to have a car rushing by, after my light said green, go? Now I know!!!! Because, the cars coming from that direction are totally stopped, long before my light turns green going home... Another lane turns in front of them, in fact, first, and it had already completed. So, that car must have gotten mixed up at the hesitation in the intersection, slammed it�s foot to the gas, and rushed through that intersection, and through it�s red light, from a full stop!!! I have no idea how it got up the steam so fast, but it was really moving! Full stop! �Ranking full stop�! (English Beat. :-)) Still Dreaming I�ve been meaning to post.. I�m still dreaming. In fact, I got a chance for a nap today, and there I was dreaming away, as I awoke. I was exhausted for a while... Dreaming is so important for me though. Different types of dreaming. Dreaming of a few days off, with a good woman to sleep with. ;-) Driving down the road, feeling myself a spirit in my body, in my CRV... feeling everything around me.. It�s dreamy sometimes. Especially on a day off, on a leisurely journey. Who would want a blog with a title like �Just Despairing� anyway?! I like dreaming a lot better.. Wednesday, January 23, 2002
Test Listening I don't recall this song, The Band's "When You Awake." Sounds like Rick Danko.. Ooo, poor Richard. He sounds so hoarse on "I Shall Be Released." He sounds so sad. The guitar on "She Belongs To Me" is perfect. Neither too much nor too little...Again on 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue". Sounds unusual.. *Is* that a guitar? Tuesday, January 22, 2002
Amelie  I've been wanting to see this movie for months, since before it ever reached the U.S. Apparently now, Amelie has become the biggest grossing French film here ever. It looks to be delightful, and the lead character, Audrey Tautou, reminds me a great deal of a certain friend of mine. So, it might be like watching her in a movie.. What a cutie! I want to see her "goofy good deeds." Audrey says: "Now if I walk in the street there are always two or four or six or eight or ten eyes looking at me, and I feel more pressure because it�s a very brutal kind of change." Hmm, I think this movie would likely be too depressing for me personally, just now. Maybe when it comes out on video and DVD.... Dark, Cold and Wet Sure seems awful sometimes. Just Cold My hands were cold at work, and now they're cold at home.. Well, the heater's on full blast, so maybe that will pass. The "snow" turned out to be about five minutes of furious flakes, nice and big. Then rain, now sunshine.. It's just cold. You can sit in a cold room with nice warm layers of clothing. But you kind of need your hands out, to move the mouse and things. They're cold! Actually, my feet are cold too. What a sorry state. Dive, dive I hate when this happens. I woke up at 4:30AM, for something close to five and one half hours of sleep... Yes, I thought of going back to sleep, but it just wasn't happening.. So, I got up and started my day early. As such I'll be off earlier than usual too. The trouble is, I feel, ick... You know something is wrong when you can't think of something you want to do, to look forward to doing later. It's one of those rare moods, when even the idea of sleeping is annoying. Ugh. Snow? Well, at least they're talking about snow and rain showers this afternoon. Of course, I read that as, "They're probably wrong, it's actually going to snow like crazy! Just wait!!" My Winners - Golden Globes (Based on press photos from the event, which I didn't view on TV...) Cutest Actress: Calista Flockhart - I just like her lately, no particular reason. Nice looking single actress! I *would* like to meet her.. ;-) Most Beautiful Actress: Thora Birch - Pretty in green. (This one's really close.) Best Looking Actor: Keifer Sutherland - He's got a really cool look, and he always seems about half crazy. Scariest Actress: Nicole Kidman - There's something about her at this event. She just looks very scary. If that is the way she really is, I wouldn't want to meet her. Actress Most Likely To Fall Out Of Her Dress: Andie McDowell - he ehhee.. Best Looking "Unidentified Companion": The woman with Damian Lewis. Just goes to prove my theory, that generally the best looking women are **not** actresses, or particularly famous. Looks Interesting To Know: Judy Davis - She played Judy Garland in a movie I didn't see. She sure looks like someone who would be neat to know though. There's a photo of her with Keifer too - - they'd make a good looking couple. OOooo, I'm listening to some really cool Dylan. One of his best bootlegs, certainly. Good Vibrations The best thing about this movie must be the start, the Beach Boys singing "Good Vibations"... Unfortunately, Chevy Chase sings along, in the opening scenes of "Vegas Vacation." Oh well, at least he has good taste. :-) Ha, he has the same wife in this film as before, Beverly DeAngelo.. However, they've sprouted new kids! Weird! Now he's trying to romance his wife in the tiny airplane bathroom.. he eh.. I wonder what Vegas is really like? It seems so fake, the whole thing.. All flash and no substance. Maybe it's not so bad? Hmm, I think the opening scene with the Beach Boys on the radio was by far the best part of this movie! Ouch. I remember why I don't watch movies very much.. |
